Episode 36

Because I said I Would - Remastered | LAYC36

I really had to drag my ass out of bed this morning. And that says something because I am a morning person. I do love waking up before the sun. I love beginning the day when it's quiet out there in the world, and I start to see the colors creeping into the sky. I think what am I going to do with this day, this time, this opportunity to grow again, evolve, live my life as an entrepreneur, as a woman who has many encores ahead of me?

Today was hard. I didn’t want to Get Up, Dress Up or Show Up!

But I made a promise. I made a promise to show up here every week, and share the lessons of my life as I evolve, grow, and transform in my sixties; figuring out who I want to be next and how I'm going to make that happen.

In today’s episode, I share from my secret arsenal of tools and techniques to move myself from resistance to accomplishment and keep a promise to myself – Because I Said I Would!

Speaker:

Hello everyone.

Speaker:

Well, I showed up again.

Speaker:

There was some question earlier today in my mind, if I actually would, or could.

Speaker:

I wasn't feeling like a dynamic podcast host earlier today.

Speaker:

I feel a little tired a little exhausted from a lot of extra

Speaker:

things going on in my life...

Speaker:

As I make room for this podcast and some new programs that I'm offering.

Speaker:

Truthfully.

Speaker:

I really had to drag my ass out of bed this morning.

Speaker:

And that's saying something, cause I'm a morning person.

Speaker:

I'm not a night person.

Speaker:

I do love waking up before the sun.

Speaker:

I love beginning the day when it's quiet out there in the world.

Speaker:

And I start to see the colors creeping into the sky.

Speaker:

And I think about ... Wow.

Speaker:

What am I going to do with this day?

Speaker:

This time.

Speaker:

This opportunity to grow again, evolve...

Speaker:

Live my life as an entrepreneur, as a woman who has many encores ahead of me.

Speaker:

But the confession is ... Today I didn't feel like any of that earlier in the day.

Speaker:

I really truly was dragging quite a while...

Speaker:

Then I realized...

Speaker:

I made a promise.

Speaker:

I made a promise to show up here every week and share intimately

Speaker:

the truths of my life...

Speaker:

Of growing up in my sixties, figuring out...

Speaker:

Who I want to be next, and how I'm going to make that happen...

Speaker:

Who I want to become with unlimited possibilities.

Speaker:

But today was a day, I wasn't feeling all that spunky.

Speaker:

And then I remembered...

Speaker:

I have a secret weapon.

Speaker:

Now, if you're watching this on video, you've already figured out, I bet

Speaker:

what I'm going to say next, but if you are on audio, you will not know

Speaker:

that I am wearing one of the most powerful t-shirts I have in my wardrobe.

Speaker:

It was a gift to me from a dear friend, a Vitamin G in my life, Jackie Scully.

Speaker:

And my t-shirt says, " Because I Said I Would."

Speaker:

This is a t-shirt from a social movement, an organization

Speaker:

called Because I Said I Would.

Speaker:

I encourage you to check them out on the internet.

Speaker:

There's some great TED Talks on this theme, and there's certainly some

Speaker:

social programs and ideas that you may really find helpful in your life.

Speaker:

But for today, I'm just valuing the opportunity that I have this

Speaker:

t-shirt because it's kinda like...

Speaker:

My super woman costume.

Speaker:

When I am feeling less than invincible.

Speaker:

If I put this t-shirt on, and I look at myself in the

Speaker:

mirror, and I set my chin...

Speaker:

I can pretty much talk myself into getting back out there and doing what

Speaker:

I need to do Because I Said I Would.

Speaker:

And the worst thing we can do is to let ourselves down.

Speaker:

It's bad enough of how we tear ourselves up when we know

Speaker:

we've let somebody else down.

Speaker:

But I think far worse is when we let ourselves down because

Speaker:

we've made a commitment.

Speaker:

We made a decision.

Speaker:

And, there's a lots of reasons that I want to some days just hide

Speaker:

under the covers, eat snacks, binge watch Netflix, whimper a little...

Speaker:

Have a little pity party by myself.

Speaker:

And then I think, Oh, yuck...

Speaker:

I don't like this here...

Speaker:

It doesn't feel good at all.

Speaker:

Yes.

Speaker:

I need to allow myself time to process emotions to heal.

Speaker:

Especially I need to get some rest, which is part of why I was cranky this morning.

Speaker:

I haven't been sleeping very well for a couple of days.

Speaker:

That's another episode.

Speaker:

But I also know...

Speaker:

Aside from the t-shirt..

Speaker:

an ol' personal talking to...

Speaker:

Some thought downloads, some journaling.

Speaker:

There's another sure fire tool in my toolbox.

Speaker:

And that's my vitamin G network.

Speaker:

Now, if you've heard me talk a little bit about how I believe that the most healthy.

Speaker:

Supplement on the planet is Vitamin G ... G stands for Girlfriends.

Speaker:

That's a carefully curated and nurtured network of close personal friends, who

Speaker:

make you want to be a better woman, who want you to succeed, but they will tell

Speaker:

you the truth when you're wimping out.

Speaker:

And they will share everything that they have gone through and learned,

Speaker:

and all the mistakes that they have made, so that you will benefit.

Speaker:

And that will save you time and money and heartache.

Speaker:

So that was also what I did today.

Speaker:

That enabled me to show up here for you...

Speaker:

On this episode...

Speaker:

I reached out and I called one of my very, very favorite Vitamin Gs...

Speaker:

And I talked to her and I said, I'm feeling like a complete loser today.

Speaker:

I don't have the energy.

Speaker:

I don't feel like I can follow through...

Speaker:

I've got a lot of things started and I don't know how I'm going

Speaker:

to get this all finished.

Speaker:

And I know that if I don't finish some of these today, I'm letting some other

Speaker:

people down and I'm letting myself down.

Speaker:

So...

Speaker:

When you are experiencing those days of...

Speaker:

I don't know, avoidance, procrastination, hesitation, resorting

Speaker:

to un- helpful practices and habits like snacking and wine-ing and whining.

Speaker:

Think about...

Speaker:

Really...

Speaker:

How important is this?

Speaker:

Do you really legitimately deserve to give yourself a free pass?...

Speaker:

Postpone it to another time?

Speaker:

Do you really, really need to say...

Speaker:

I no longer need to do that, and make it right.

Speaker:

Finish it off.

Speaker:

Tie it up, clean it up....

Speaker:

Or do you say...

Speaker:

Suck it up, buttercup...

Speaker:

Let's go get it done...

Speaker:

Because then there will be no more energy drain...

Speaker:

Fighting, resisting...

Speaker:

What you keep saying I should do.

Speaker:

And instead, you'll be able to say...

Speaker:

I did it.

Speaker:

I have another very, very dear friend who inspires me every, every day.

Speaker:

Her name is Michele, and Michele Bailey says...

Speaker:

I can.

Speaker:

I will.

Speaker:

I did.

Speaker:

And that's a driving motto for her.

Speaker:

And that's a great one to keep tucked away in your reserve...

Speaker:

When you need to have a little chat with your limiting belief character...

Speaker:

A little bitch that sometimes talks in your ears...

Speaker:

And talks you out of why you should finish something.

Speaker:

Or...

Speaker:

When you just feel like other people are trying to convince you and distract you...

Speaker:

From getting done what you know is important...

Speaker:

To the future that you desire and that you deserve.

Speaker:

Another tip from me around getting over the hump on the days when

Speaker:

it's feeling like just too much, too much to do too much drama...

Speaker:

Requiring too much energy...

Speaker:

Is to go for a walk.

Speaker:

How incredibly simple is that?

Speaker:

But there is definitely huge return in the value of connecting

Speaker:

with mother nature for awhile.

Speaker:

Leave your devices behind, or simply turn off the ringer on your phone and

Speaker:

play some uplifting music or one of my favorites and uplifting podcast.

Speaker:

Just get away from the environment that you're in right now that you're

Speaker:

resisting for 30 minutes or 45 minutes.

Speaker:

It's amazing...

Speaker:

When you come back...

Speaker:

How much easier it is to just dive in and get that done.

Speaker:

And as an entrepreneur, you may face also...

Speaker:

We're always teased about having bright shiny object syndrome.

Speaker:

I've learned over the years, not only is that because I have this amazingly

Speaker:

curious brain and I really love to create and to build and I vision...

Speaker:

Futures for people, sometimes bigger than their own vision for

Speaker:

themselves, but also the squirrel with a bright shiny object syndrome...

Speaker:

Can be a disguise for procrastination.

Speaker:

Because if I don't want to work on that...

Speaker:

I can make myself think it's because this is so much more fun and interesting.

Speaker:

And I abdicate my responsibilities so I can go over here and play mentally.

Speaker:

I don't know if that's something that presents for you, but

Speaker:

watch out because it's sneaky.

Speaker:

It just pops in there because it seems like way more fun.

Speaker:

So for now, I just like to say thank you.

Speaker:

Thank you for being part of my recovery and my recharge today.

Speaker:

So that I'm feeling a much more like I can now get busy and tick off some

Speaker:

of those things on my list and feel better for having done it because

Speaker:

you've allowed me to just share here with you friend of friend.

Speaker:

And be honest and candid about the things that some days I'm a little embarrassed

Speaker:

or a little shamed of my bad habits and my misbehaviors, but good thing is, every

Speaker:

day is a new day and we start over, and I'm looking forward to talking to you

Speaker:

again next week, and I'll let you know how I'm doing with that, staying on track.

Speaker:

And if I have any other t-shirts that I want to share with you.
